Holi 2015. Russian Style #yarholi
India is expanding beyond its borders. The bright Holi has come to Russia. Yesterday, May 30th, the ancient Russian city of Yaroslavl celebrated its 1005 anniversary with colours, joyful mood and rainbow of positive emotions.
The bright colours of Holi festival attracted thousand of Yaroslavl citizens and guests from the neighbour cities and towns. Those who wished to visit the event were of all ages: from little kids to elders. People were coming with friends and families. Everyone enjoyed the colourful game.
Holi celebration in Russian style was held in the city park from 2pm to 8pm. During the festival the participants could take part in competitions, see the performance of acrobats and listen to good music. The organizers invited a DJ, local singers and music bands. Mass “colour shoots” were made every hour. Three tons of colours were specially brought to the same place of the event.
On the territory of the festival there was a changing room. Anyone could change clothes after playing colours and continue to explore more events dedicated to the 1005th anniversary of Yaroslavl. However, most of the guests prefer to leave the festival with colours on their face, clothes and body, and spread the joyful mood all over the city.
The colourful festival was held third time in Yaroslavl. The unusual tradition became popular very fast among the local people. However, normally, Indian colours are not available on the Russian market, so people cannot organize the festival on their own.
The festival has come to Russian from India. There it is celebrated to mark the beginning of spring. The date is not fixed and depends on the moon. Usually it falls on March, more rarely on late February. Originally only Hindu people celebrate it. But the tradition of playing with colours captured hearts of all Indian people regardless their religion.
Mass shoot with Holi colours
During the mass colour shoots hundreds of hands flew up to throw red, green, yellow and purple powder colours in the air. Rainbow fog covered everyone. The colourful clouds and joyful crowd could be seen and heard from far.
Young participants decided not to change after playing with colours and left the festival with clourful faces, hair, body and clothes. Everyone was charged with positive emotions and continue to spread the good mood around the city.
