Hilarious videos of cats terribly scared of cucumbers have become viral on Internet. In three days after publishing the compilation on 15th November 2015, it was viewed for over 60 million times. Are cats really scared of cucumbers? Why do they jump out of their skin the moment they see a cucumber? The scientists have disclosed the secret of cats’ “cucumber phobia”.
If the video inspired you for the new discoveries and experiments in regards to your dear pet cat, please, put away the cucumber you’ve just took. Actually cats’ cucumber phobia does not exist, vets say. These whiskered animals are frightened by the overall situation. As you can see in the video, most of the cats start and jump out of their skin when they turn around and see a cucumber placed by an owner behind of them. Cats are just spooked by the suddenness of the moment. Often the cucumber appears while cats are eating.
Animals behaviour experts appeal to all the cat owners to stop torture their pets with cucumbers and other objects which are put secretly behind them. Such situations are a great stress for these animals. It’s equal to trivial intimidation.
“If you cause stress to an animal that’s probably not a good thing. If you do it for laughs it makes me question your humanity,” said Jill Goldman, an animal behaviorist from California.
Except the sudden effect, another reason for being frightened by cucumbers with cats is that a cucumber can not be normally found on the floor. That’s why cats feel suspicious when they see the vegetable nearby. Moreover, the whiskered consider the feeding area the safest and the most private place in the house. And when something rudely breaks their privacy, cats try to leap out and escape from the dangerous object.
Love your pets and take care of them. They will shower you with lots more of love and kindness in return.
