The Banaras Hindu University, or simply BHU, is considered in India and abroad as one of the most respected and prestigious Universities. It is located in the southern part of the Holy city of Banaras (Varanasi, or Kashi). The Banaras Hidu university occupies the territory of over 5 sq. km. It also has a south campus of 11 sq. km.

The territory of the Banaras Hindu University is rich in plants and wild life. There are a lot of trees, flowers, bushes and other plants that create a different micro-climate in the university campus. Being well maintained the nature attracts many peacocks that can be often found walking in the gardens of numerous faculties and departments.

As the Banaras Hindu University is highly recognised in Indian and abroad it attracts thousands of students from all over the country and such countries as Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, China, Iran, South Africa, USA, Canada, Mauritius, Chile, Russia and many others. On the campus of BHU there are three International hostels. One is given to boys, and two small hostels – for girls. Overall the Banaras Hindu University houses over 60 hostels which belong to according faculties and institutes.

The Main Gate of BHU is located at Lanka. At the entrance the statue of the University founder – Mahamana Pandit Madan Moham Malaviya – welcomes everyone to his ‘city of knowledge’.

Madhuban park in Banaras Hindu University

One of the most popular places among the students of the Banaras Hindu University is Madhuban. The Park is decorated with abstract futuristic statues. It is pleasant to take rest on a bench under the shade of tree’s leaves shaken by soft wind.
